A BLACK CONCRETE NURSERY SCHOOL? WHY NOT?

Today we want to share a personal experience. When it was time to choose a nursery school for our first daughter, we had the chance to go to a new one, a recent built project in our town. A great new black concrete building. Yes, black.

Some of the people we met and talked to they had the same feeling: “a black building for our newborn babies?”. And yes, we had the same answer to everybody: “Why not?”

First time we went inside, we thought “yes, this must be our daughter school”. We give importance to the educational program, of course, but also to the environment where this program is going to be taught.

Designed by catalan architects David Aceves and Albert Colomer, the building defines a playful and exciting bright environment suitable for implementing this kindergarten’s educational policy, defined by Escoles Bressol Municipals de Vic.

The building gives a very special importance to structure, as the element that creates all the different interior and even exterior spaces.  A project which is very conscious about the scale of the different ambients, most of them divided by sliding doors that easily allow changes in the distribution.

Finally, authors chose to paint it black to give elegance and contrast between light entrance holes and opaque walls.

And of course, we chose this black building for our two daughters.  Now we have the feeling that the combination between the building and the teaching staff gave her a great learning experience.

We also attach some images of the same building before painting it, just as a curiosity.
