A CONSTRUCTION BLOCKS EXHIBITION IN MADRID
For those who follow us, it is well known that we love construction blocks.
Now you can find a great construction blocks exhibition in Madrid, at the Circulo de Bellas Artes. A great compilation of original toys and texts, that show the influence of construction toys in the modern history of architecture.
Juan Bordes, is an architect, sculptor and, in this case, the exhibition curator. He started this collection 20 years ago and now there are more than 500 items.
During the late eighteenth century, construction toys were used to teach mathematics, geometry and drawing .
Manufacturers noticed its extraordinary potential and began producing variations in wood and cardboard, and later in stone, metal and plastic.
Frederich Froebel introduced these games in preschools teaching programs, to help teaching methods in spatial reasoning, analytical thinking and creative design.
This exhibition will remain in the Picasso Room of the Circulo de Bellas Artes until the 15 of May.
El Circulo de Bellas Artes has published a catalog of the exhibition that includes more than 140 images and texts signed by the architects Juan Miguel Hernández León, Juan Navarro Baldeweg and the Curator, Juan Bordes.
