ROOF SENTIMENT, a Society of Architecture flexible roof
MMCA, Korea’s National Museum of Modern and Contemporary Art, Seoul, joined the Young Architects Program in 2014. This year it presents the installation named Roof Sentiment, by Society of Architecture.
It is part of the Young Architect Program (YAP). It offers annual temporary outdoor facilities to provide shade, seating and water to a contemporary museum around the world. In this contest, projects must be innovative and creative as well as including actions for sustainable development. Roof Sentiment was last year’s edition winner.
It is a large flexible reed canvas roof, which can offer fresh air and shade. It has a serpentine shape and is held up by tall pillars at the highest points, so that parts of the roof dangle and move freely in the wind.
In addition, to evoke the sense of nature as well as to enrich the tactility of the experiment, the soil surface is covered with shredded pine tree bark. Vegetation also covers a series of grass mounds. The pitched shape refers to the surrounding mountainous landscape.
When I choose to post a building or a public space, usually I think about how my daughters would interact with it. And the answer to this question is the reason to post or not.
And today’s post is a must visit place! With them, of course!
